The Mfantseman Municipal Health directorate has recruited 336- volunteers to provide Health care to some people in all areas in the Municipality under National Integrated Maternal and Child Health campaign.The purpose of the campaign is to prevent Children under 5- from dying from preventable diseases and to also prevent maternal death in the country.
The Mfantseman Municipal Health Director, Dr. Kwabena Sarpong revealed, the volunteers will administer Polio Vaccines to children from birth to 5, de-worm children from 2-5 years, and also supplementation of Vitamin A to children 6 months -5 years and to breastfeeding Mothers within 8 weeks of delivery.
He added, the volunteers will as well register children under 1-year under the birth registry and provide them with certificates.
He said the team will undergo a counting exercise for Dogs and Cats in the Municipality in collaboration with the Vertinary Service in order to vaccinate them against Rabies.
Dr. Sarpong said, the team will finally identify severely malnourished children in the Municipality to assist in giving them Therapeutic foods to help them recover to prevent them from dying.
